Like many radio presenters, I started as a mobile DJ. In 1976!! From there I went on to hospital radio, and when the FM frequency beckoned I jumped at the chance to join Skyline Gold in Southampton. It soon became apparent that other stations were sometimes short of presenters, and the norm in those days was to play automated music. In 2011 I offered a show to Forest FM – Sounds Of The 70s – which I still present there to date, and I soon realised that here was a gap that needed filling elsewhere. Other stations followed including the legendary 1260KYA in San Francisco, Castledown Radio in Wiltshire, and the Bigl, today’s equivalent of 60s pirate station Radio London. (I have been broadcasting live on the BigL from my south coast studio six days a week since 2013). Soon stations all over the world started airing the shows. Some have used the shows for a while then replaced them with live presenters when available, others have given them their own permanent slots. Many people have asked who was my favourite interviewee, and the answer has to be Stu Cook of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Not only did Stu give me around twenty minutes, he was happy to talk about the days when things weren’t good, and after all, Creedence was my all time favourite band in the 70s. For the 60s, it has to be The Searchers who are friends, and I have published their official website since 1997. As I have often said “On the rare occasions when things were hard going I went to see The Searchers. Their sheer hard work and professionalism put me to shame and gave me the kick up the backside I needed”. My shows often feature guests, and interviews have included chats with Frank Allen of The Searchers – always a delight, Mike Rutherford (Genesis), Paul Carrack (Mike and The Mechanics, Squeeze), Justin Hayward, Alan Clark (Dire Straits), Tom McGuiness of Manfred Mann, Deborah Bonham, Simon Townsend, Stu Cook (Creedence) Dave Clark (Dave Clark Five) and just about every other 60s band still working! Not only that but household names like Jenny Eclair and Toyah Willcox have also joined me! My live radio work has taken me to California, and my shows now air from Tenerife to Tasmania! Very much a fan of personality radio, I try to remember that the listener comes first, I try to give my shows a live feel and keep listeners interested with features like the “A side B side”, “same difference” and the “slipped disc” song. One of my favourite write-ups came from Ace FM in Spain – sadly now long gone: Gary started his DJ career back in the days when half a dozen singles from Saturday Night Fever were guaranteed to fill the dance floor. Hospital radio beckoned in the early 1990s and he now finds himself on a Spanish station, surprised that it’s the English speaking population that listens, having always thought the most suitable audience would be those who hadn’t a clue what he was on about. He fell in love with beat music in the 60s, and in 1997 he was approached by The Searchers to publish their official website which he does to this day.

My name is Gary and I present my Blast Radio shows. Working in local community radio since 2010 I’ve been presenting these shows for a number of years now and enjoy bringing songs on air you may not of heard for a long time. I also enjoy hearing about your first songs bought and your memories too from these decades. I've been fortunate enough to talk to many stars of the 80s and 90s about their music back then and now. I’ve interviewed many musicians from these decades and have learnt some very interesting things about them and other musicians from these era’s as well. But most of all, the fact that you the listener are enjoying the music, means that I am achieving my goal of making you happy.

I have had a passionate interest in broadcast radio since I was a young teenager. A successful club and event DJ, I trained at industrial radio station UBN and entered broadcast radio in the late 70’s as a radio presenter for several radio stations including Ward Radio in London where I was appointed Chairman in 1979. I was responsible managerially and editorially for all on-air programming together with overseeing sound engineering, fundraising & training. I proudly remain an Honorary Chairman today. I then went on to become a presenter at Chiltern Radio, serving Herts, Beds, Bucks, Northants and others with my 'Tony Lloyd Late Show', featuring the popular 'Midnight Magic' romantic half hour. (Sorry about the photo!) I was promoted to Drive Show presenter in 1990, at the same time presenting the 'Top 20 Countdown', and going on to work at the station for ten years. In addition I also broadcast on Invicta SuperGold & Severn Sound & launched SuperGold, Horizon Radio in Milton Keynes and The Hot FM.

Dave Marley

Dave Marley

Presenter/Producer

When it comes to music, it literally rules Dave's life. He's UK based and he's been DJing since the early ’80s, but it wasn’t until the mid 90’s that he became interested in radio presenting. His love and respect and understanding of all types of good music, right from as far back as the classic 50s, through to indie-pop and dance music of the ’90s & 00's He grew up in West London listening to the radio from as young 3 or 4 years old and started collecting his own vinyl at the mere age of around 5 years old in the early ’70s, saving his pocket money up to buy 45's as often as possible, and even now, 50 something years on, he still an avid collector of vinyl. Dave was always a massive fan of the late great master of chart countdowns Alan “Fluff” Freeman, and his long running “Pick of the Pop” show over the years. Dave growing up always wanted to take a stab at doing his own take on a vintage chart countdown radio show. He's delighted to announce that he now hosts his own successful classic chart show. The Classic Chart Rundown" was born. His high energy show covers 4 decades at music from the official UK Top 40 Chart, going back as far as 1957 and coming up to as far as 1989. He does plans to take the show into the 90s decade in the near future.

As a 60’s baby grew up in the era of Elvis Presley/ Cliff Richards enjoying music at a young age. Musically joined School/ Church choirs and enjoyed music but could not grasp the ability to play instruments. After leaving school worked in factories, one in particular played Reggae / Calypso/ Soca music all day whilst at work and that’s where my love of Jamaican music grew. This led to an opportunity to get involved with mobile discos with a Jamaican work colleague, he had the equipment and I had a ford cortina mk3 estate. Together we played at various Jamaican house parties in the south London area where we would start at 6pm and still be going at 6am. After this I gained employment at a CIU workingmans club where at first involved behind the bar, led to being entertainment manager booking live acts and providing a disco as well. Fast forward two decades and I got the opportunity to broadcast live on my local community radio in 2012 playing 70’s music for 3 hours. After 7 years I wanted a challenge and the station accepted my request to do a Reggae Show, at first 1 hour but within weeks it’s acceptance and sucess prompted a two hour live show.In November 2019 my work commitments changed and I could not broadcast live, so had to leave the station. In 2020 invited to join an online radio station the Reggae Show was reborn. Today the show has grown to be broadcast around the world on several stations including KL Radio- Online. So if you love Reggae your in the right place with KL Radio- Online playing All the Best Music All the Time. And thanks for listening to the Show

Hobbies Soccer Music two of the finest. Still enjoy Crate Digging (looking for that elusive bargain) Fav Artiste Rod Stewart. Marvin Gaye Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, The Who. Favorite Decade 60s just for the diversity of musical magic and creative geniuses that was brought to the general record buying public. Todd Gordon

Todd Gordon

Presenter/Producer

“Todd Gordon stands as the guardian of all that is good in the music I love. I only wish there were more like him” – Sir Michael Parkinson Todd Gordon has established himself as “one of Britain’s most popular singers and entertainers” (Scottish Television). An avid Beatles fan until the age of eleven, his musical horizons were broadened when he first heard a Frank Sinatra album. From that moment, he collected almost every recording by Ol’ Blue Eyes and, from there, his interest expanded to jazz and swing, encompassing numerous other renowned singers and instrumentalists. Further inspiration came in 1975 when he met Ella Fitzgerald prior to one of her shows and then, during the concert, she invited him on stage and sang specially to him. Since then, Gordon has been fortunate enough to meet many more of his idols – including Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Count Basie, Woody Herman, George Shearing and Tony Bennett, motivating him to immerse himself in the Great American Songbook genre. “Todd strips away all the cabaret and show biz veneer and gets to the very heart of the lyrics of the American Songbook” – David Jones, London Jazz Festival Gordon’s interest in music and singing was passionate, yet always private. But in 2000, he took part in a week-long vocal jazz workshop and that changed everything. His stage debut came in 2001 at Scotland’s top jazz club and from that moment on, as the cliché goes, he’s never looked back. In 2003, aged 44, he was booked to open for Dionne Warwick during her UK tour, which prompted him to give up his day job organisng exhibitions. Since then, Gordon has performed frequently at Britain’s top jazz venues, including The Pizza Express Jazz Room, The 606 in Chelsea and the world- renowned Ronnie Scott’s. He’s also performed at The Plaza and The Algonquin hotels in New York – where he even did a duet with actor Christopher Walken, singing “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.” He also features regularly at major jazz fesBvals and concerts. In fact, he was the first Scottish male jazz singer to be booked for the London Jazz Festival, with his first appearance at the prestigious Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. “I can’t think of a current American singer who sings better in this swing-era style” – James Gavin, acclaimed US journalist and author of the definitive biographies on Chet Baker, Lena Horne and Peggy Lee Todd’s audiences range from intimate jazz clubs to large-scale shows (regularly compèring and performing at “Jazz on a Summer’s Day” against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle – Britain’s biggest jazz event with an audience of 20,000-plus). He was also one of four nominees for a national music award alongside Texas and Annie Lennox. Gordon works with the very best British musicians (Alan Barnes, Alec Dankworth, Steve Brown etc) and has also performed with top US players including Jay Leonhart, Ted Rosenthal, Joe Cohn and Butch Miles. He’s also joined forces for concerts with Curtis Stigers, Barb Jungr, Ian Shaw, Claire Martin, Janet Seidel, Clare Teal, James Tormé and, most frequently, Jacqui Dankworth. “Doing it his way, Sinatra’s ghost lives on in the work of one of his most polished admirers” – Clive Davis, The Times He has released four albums with Ian Shaw in the producer’s chair: Love’s Illusions, Ballads from The Midnight Hotel (with Guy Barker and featuring a duet with Jacqui Dankworth), and Moon River to The Days of Wine and Roses – an album celebrating the work of the legendary American Songbook lyricist Johnny Mercer, with the acclaimed Mel Tormé pianist, John Colianni. Two more recent releases have followed: a big band swing album with the chart-topping Royal Air Force Squadronaires with several duets with guest singers (Clare Teal, Eddi Reader, Carol Kidd, Janet Seidel, etc) and Love dot com – an album Gordon recorded in Seoul after one of his tracks was used as the theme song in a top-rating Korean TV drama series. “Gordon has made the great American songbook his own” – The Guardian Further capitalizing on his passion for music, Gordon set up a concert promotion business, Jazz International, which has staged over 100 events at Scotland’s leading music venues as well as the British Vocal Jazz Festival in 2013. In addition, his smooth speaking voice is ideally suited to his engaging and accessible radio shows which are syndicated on around 25 FM and internet stations around the world – www.toddsturntable.blogspot.com – an impeccable showcase for the very best in vocal jazz, swing, blues and easy listening. As a live performer, Gordon’s concerts appeal to a wider audience than purely jazz lovers. He has created several crowd-pulling, audience-pleasing, concert themes, which have won four- and five-star reviews. The line-up for these range from a top-flight trio to the superb BBC Big Band and award-winning Back to Basie Orchestra with his acclaimed Frank & Ella Show and a Sinatra-Basie project. “Fantastic performer. You’re far too good for this lot!” – Sir Sean Connery Along the way, many respected songwriters have praised Gordon’s interpretations of their songs, including the legendary Mike Stoller, the hugely successful Gilbert O’Sullivan, the co-composer of Sinatra’s “Watertown” masterpiece, Jake Holmes, as well as fêted composer, Stephen Sondheim.

Neil Greaves

Presenter/Producer

My passion for music drew its first breath when Radio Rentals took our TV away. I was 10 years old. Not being one who waits to be entertained, and being of a curious nature, I decided to explore my mother's vast record collection, the bulk of which represented the genres of folk and country. But, hidden in its depths were some real sonic treasures. After a short search, I unearthed Bob Marley’s Burning and the Wailers albums, Donny Hathaway’s Extension Of a Man, and the complete works of Ray Charles and Millie Jackson. This was truly my Eureka moment! Now I had a new passion, now I could see a path before me, one that I would follow from that day forth. Paper-round money was now being used to service a new addiction — a new hunger. No longer would I be visiting the local toyshop to buy yet another Airfix Spitfire (1:72 scale) to cover in inappropriately-applied glue. No, from now on, it was now the racks of vinyl in my local record stores that beckoned me with their seductive contents. Aylesbury's Record House, Earth Records and Our Price were my after-school haunts. Even now I can still recall, as if it were yesterday, the alluring scent of clean, fresh vinyl that permeated these (what were in my mind) palaces, these shrines dedicated to music, sanctuaries where I could escape from the world and be Me. The Grundig radiogram, my then pride and joy, with the glow of its valves radiating evocatively through the louvered vents of the rear cover, would now be pumped to the max, and my my bedroom window would be wide open. This was the life, sharing the music I loved with the kids playing outside my house, while Mother would scream her own chorus of disapproval, "NEIL! TURN DOWN THE BASS!”. I knew it in my heart, my blood, my soul, I wanted to be a DJ. So now you know a little more about me from my perspective. In the eyes of others I've been described as (amongst other things that I think I'll keep to myself!) charmingly and uniquely amusing, but I will let you, my beautiful listeners, be my judge… I look forward to playing my music for YOU Greavsie

James Ross

James Ross

Presenter/Producer

James Ross presents The Greatest Hits Of Music every week, with a focus on the biggest and best songs from through the years. Great songs that you remember, and some you've forgotten! James has been broadcasting one way or another since he was a scruffy teenager. He’s been a DJ, producer, TV presenter, journalist, reporter, operations manager and distribution manager at numerous radio and TV stations in the UK and around the world. Somehow radio and TV is in his blood, and throughout his career he's had close links with many aspects of broadcasting. James started out in BBC Local Radio, working at BBC Radio Solent, BBC London and BBC Radio Bristol, mixed with spells at Radio Top Shop. He was then, for many years, behind the scenes at BBC Radio One, and then as a reporter at BBC Radio Two and LBC News Radio. His reporting specialty was travel shows, and for this he travelled all over the world to record radio programmes about destinations such as Barbados, Egypt, Cyprus, Hungary, Sweden, China, Japan, the U.S, and many others, an exotic and fun job which he loved perhaps not surprisingly! James has also been lucky enough to work closely, while at the BBC, with numerous celebrities as diverse as the Pet Shop Boys, the Rolling Stones, Jeremy Clarkson, Simon Bates, Alan Freeman, Terry Wogan and many others. With a slightly different hat on, James played key roles both in front and behind the camera at financial network Bloomberg Television in Tokyo and Hong Kong. In this role he saw at close hand the rise and fall and rise again of Asia's economies. Back on the entertainment side James has also worked for UK broadcaster ITV working to expand shows such as Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here to a global audience. But it's music radio that is his first love, and in the radio world he's also presented shows for top radio stations all over the world, including those in countries as diverse as Spain, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Thailand etc.. Rather than focus on one particular era The Greatest Hits Of Music plays the biggest and best hits from the sixties right up to today's hits. The show is about the strength of the artistes, and the familiarity of their songs. It's about the best-produced, and most-uplifting hits from through the years, all mixed together with occasional songs from charts around the world, music and showbiz news, and a bit of light fun and banter.

Steve Bishop

Steve Bishop

Presenter/Producer

Steve Bishop was a button presser behind the scenes at many commercial and BBC local stations and went on to present his own show on Radio Caroline. Further stints on community radio stations in the South East of England led to him recording and syndicating his own oldies show, with music in the 50s to 80s period, from the comfort of his garden coal bunker, despite the fire risk. He can often be found on the terraces of Queens Park Rangers football club but wonders why, as they never go and see him when he's bad. Drinks tea like it's going out of fashion. A self-confessed luddite, he still uses CD players, record decks and tape machines. Steve’s music taste includes artists such as Electric Light Orchestra, Al Stewart, David Bowie and 1970s Queen. He intends to get away with doing his radio show for as long as possible.

Like many other radio presenters of a 'certain age', I caught the radio ‘bug’ when I listened to the pirate radio stations in the sixties on my 'tranny'. The jingles were my favourite part and ‘Big L’ Radio London had the best ones. I never dreamed I'd have my own versions of them on my own show one day! It was all very exciting then, and it made me want to be a DJ myself. I used to practice ‘mixing’ music in my bedroom with just a Dansette record player and a small, reel-to-reel tape recorder! In the seventies, I started broadcasting on a hospital radio station in Surrey and one of my shows won the NAHBO national competition for best hospital radio programme along with my co-presenter Steve Jarrett. Among the judges were DJ & TV presenter Noel Edmonds and newsreader Richard Baker. I also started recording interviews with many celebrities, including DJ Johnnie Walker and comedy legends Morecambe & Wise. One of my favourite memories of hospital radio was presenting a live 'Juke Box Jury' in front of an audience with a celebrity panel including singers Helen Shapiro and Rob Davis of the band Mud. In 1976, I became a Butlin's 'redcoat' entertainer presenting music and chat from their Radio Butlin studio at Clacton in Essex. Great fun, but very hard work. Skipping forward to the 1990's, I did the weekday morning show on a station called Eclipse FM which broadcast on cable TV and regular RSLs. One of our directors was DJ Dave Cash. Sadly, the station closed when we didn't win the local radio franchise for SW London (now run by Radio Jackie.) Again, I was lucky enough to do many celebrity interviews at Eclipse including singers Marty Wilde and Bo Diddley (who I had to address as Mr Diddley!) A few years ago, I did a spell on the weekday afternoon show of a commercial station named Seahaven FM on the East Sussex coast. My most embarrassing moment in radio was when I interviewed the comedian Richard Digance and I got a nose-bleed halfway through our chat! I now really enjoy presenting my weekly Happy Hour show on various British and international FM & internet radio services. They are all a very friendly bunch and they’ve got talent oozing out of their studios!

I have been a DJ/Radio Presenter since the 60's where I started on Land based pirate radio stations and in disco clubs around London. In the 70's I was still working in Disco clubs and engaged in agent work for the odd outside broadcasts for radio stations and during that time for 4 years I was doing Hospital Radio. In the late 70's I was a DJ/Compere in a night club where the acts were groups from the 60's & 70's such as Gerry & The Pacemakers, Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders, The Searchers, The Troggs, plus many more plus Bonnie Tyler and groups such as Paper Lace, Russ Abbot & the Black Abbots etc. I left the industry during the 80's and returned in 2005 working for Coastal FM where I stayed for over 5 years doing the breakfast show & outside work for the station. Since 2016 I have continually done weekend shows introducing the English service on RNI and I am currently still with them. Now I present The Pete Nightingale Pirate Radio Show as they were on the 60's Pirate stations, the shows demostrate the fun, the excitement & the mood as heard on the DLT, Kenny Everett, Tony Blackburn, TW & Dave Cash shows to name a few.
